Losing Life

Last week was a difficult week for my family.
My mother miscarried my new little sibling and another little life was added to our four other babies in heaven.
It has been especially hard since we have all been praying for so long for another sibling and when we found out last month about this pregnancy, we were {beyond} excited.
People probably think that with there being so many of us, another baby is just "another one" to add the the already huge number of us, and that it isn't as exciting.
Nothing could be farther from the truth!
It seems that every time we hear that a new baby is on the way we are even more excited than the previous time, impossible though that seems.
Anyway, my little sisters are full of questions, wondering why God would take away the baby that they've been praying for so long.
My nine-year old sister came to me the other day with the regular questions about the miscarriage, and a new one:
"Chels, why are there people who don't want babies, and prevent having them, and then us, who want more babies, can't have them? It isn't fair!"
The same question has gone through all of our minds.
Why do some people choose to limit God?
How can people think that they are more capable than God to "plan" out what they think they can handle?
And strangest of all..
how can people possibly NOT want the blessing and joy of babies?
It simply blows my mind.
I cannot understand it.
maybe its how we've been raised that makes my siblings and I think so differently from the general population on this.
maybe its because we've experienced the joy of babies in our house so many times.
maybe its because we understand the truth of "the more, the merrier"!
maybe its because we've all read and memorized Psalm 127, which leaves no doubt in our minds that babies are, well, just exactly what God says they are.
We're gonna keep praying that God would send us more babies!
And in the meantime, I look forward to someday meeting our five little angel babies who are waiting for us in heaven!

  1. I'm so sorry for your families loss,Chels, you'll all be in my prayers.
I too cannot wait to see all 3 of my little siblings in heaven that I've never met.

  2. Oh no! I'm so sorry, Chelsy. Yes, some women choose to do away with their children as an inconvenience, some don't realize what they've done until later, and it grieves them. But I've seen it, no matter how far along the baby was in developing, when someone miscarries, it's always so devastating.

    Will pray for you.

    Love, Rebecca

  3. Oh Chels, I'm so sorry for yours and your family's loss. My mom miscarried one baby before I was born, and I think often about my brother or sister in Heaven. Your point was strong in this post, and I pray that it causes people to stop, think, and realize -- children are a blessing!

  4. So sorry for your loss.
    Praying for you!

  5. Oh!! We are SO sorry!
Our family has also wanted and prayed for more babies, but it may not be the Lord's will!! It is just not right that people have abortions or stop because "three is enough" while other people want to have more or want to adopt!

It is just so sad! We will be praying for your family!

  6. Praying for your family this week as you go through this!

  7. I am so very sorry to hear about your recent loss! Our family has gone through 6 miscarriages, so I know how hard this can be even when you may already have a big family-every child is precious to God. We will most certainly keep your sweet family in our prayers that God would give you peace during this difficult time!

  8. So sorry for your loss. I have one daughter after 3 miscarriages. We would love more but after 8-1/2 years maybe it's not meant to be. I have guilt about it, she would make the best sister. Sometimes the silent mourning is unbearable. Glad you were able to share. We'll see them all again someday.

  17. I am so sorry, Chels! Please know you are in my prayers. Praying for you dear. Hope that the weeks to come will draw you and your family closer to our King as he draws close to you!

    Psalm 147:3
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

    Psalm 34:18
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

May you rest in knowing that He is the the greatest comforter of all time!

  18. I'm so sorry for your loss. My mom had a miscarriage before I was born, so I also have a sibling in Heaven that I can not wait to see someday. I know it's not quite the same, because I've never had the joy of Mom expecting another baby to be taken away from me, but I know it's always hard. You and your family will definitely be in my prayers.

  19. I am so sorry for your loss! I don't know how it feels to lose a sibling, but my sister lost her baby this summer and it was heartbreaking. you guys are in our prayers!
    God bless!

  20. I am so sorry for your family's loss! I think your sister's question is a challenge for many of us - no matter what age, to really understand. Praying for your family during this time!

  23. Wow... My sisters all want babies as well, and it's shocking that people abort. :(

  24. I am sorry for your loss.

To answer some of your questions- people can put a limit to God's creation because they simply do not believe in a God. Like myself. It's probably difficult to understand given that you so strongly do believe but that's just the truth of it. I plan on having 2 or 3 because I want them to receive plenty of individual attention from their parents. Plain math says 2 will receive more per person than 12 could. Adoption is also a wonderful option, considering there are many children who desperately need a family of their own.

I hope that helps answer some of the questions.

  25. Hello Chelsy!

I have been reading your blog for a while
now, and always enjoy thoughts from a fellow
    Christian daughter!

I was so very sad to read this. I am so very
    sorry. I can relate a little,as I have a sibling
in Heaven; my brother's twin. The baby was probably
a girl; the sister I have always wanted..... I cannot
presume to know why the Lord takes little lives back
to Himself, but I do know that He "doeth all things
well", and will be with you as you grieve. I look
forward to the day when I will get to see him/her for
    the very first time!
I will be praying for your family.

  27. I am so sorry to read this sad news, and pray that God will wrap His loving arms around your family.

  28. I am so sorry for you loss. Keeping your family in our prayers. May God Bless and comfort each one of you.

  29. Ana,
thanks for your comment. Although I do not agree with you, I appreciate that you are able to disagree in a kind way!
I have to respond about what you said about only having a couple children-
plain math also says that a child that has 11 people to love it (like in our family) will get WAY more attention than a child that only has 3 people (2 parents & 1 sibling) to love it. My youngest sister is 5 and she is the most adored, loved, cared for, and doted on child that I know, because she essentially has eleven parents. =)

    1. Thanks for replying.

I do understand that a big family promotes sibling relationships to a much greater degree than a small family does but in my mind sibling love and attention is very different to parental. There is much to comprehend and hopefully put to use in a modern world. Diversity of culture and thought is great. Trying to find common human ground with people very different is a challenge that requires time and effort. Those who are up for the challenge rarely manage to make sense of it all in their teenage years or early twenties. Which is a median age for older siblings.

A parent however is older, therefor more experienced and equipped to lead a child through seemingly confusing diversity, while making sure he/she keeps an open mind. That is a task I personally greatly value and would never expect a sibling to perform. It is also why I didn't have a child in my twenties before feeling a bit more confident about my ability to perform it (I'm 31 now).
It is a personal choice but since you asked those questions I thought I should offer my perspective.

      Cheers from Zagreb!

    2. Ana~

I guess we are just going to have to disagree! =)
Even as the eldest of 10 children, I get lots of love and one-on-one time with my parents. (in addition to w/ my siblings) They have poured so much love and time into my siblings and I and we get plenty of attention from them...and don't feel in the slightest like we're missing out on anything. =)

  30. im so sorry for ur guys loss but i am parying for u guys =)

  31. I am so sorry for your family's loss. Having lost two babies right before the one that is due now, I know the pain your mother is going through. You are so right, it doesn't matter how many children you have.... it is ALWAYS exciting to welcome another one. And.... I agree, the younger children in a big family get TONS of love and attention! :o) We will be praying for your mom.

  32. I am so sorry... My heart hurts for you all as you walk through this difficult time. Praying for you guys!

  33. I am so sorry for your loss! Your family will definitely be in my prayers!
I am also one of ten children! Just wondering... were these consecutive miscarriages for your mother or were they over just a period of time between her other pregnancies?

    1. The first one was between my brothers Josh & Denver (they are children #5 & #6 in our family) and the last four have been since my youngest sister Rebecca.

  34. Oh my goodness, I am so sorry for your families loss! Our Momma misscarried between my older sister and I. :( You all will be in our prayers! :)

  35. Chels, I want to let you know that you and your family are in our prayers. We know, sadly, what you are going through. I can't wait to get to meet all these precious little people, and my wonderful Savior one day. May be with y'all now and always. In his love,
    Hannah for the Tates

  36. I'm grieved to hear about your fammily's loss. Your story of grace is a beautiful testimony of the work of God in your family's life. Know that you're being lifted up before the Father in whom we have reason for the good hope of eternal life!

    Andrew (for the Kasaharas)

    Lamentations 3:21-23

But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
