Rejuvenate Lately

Sometimes in the midst of everything you just have to take a little time to stop and rejuvenate. In times like that, you need a few friends who you know you can call on to come and relax a little with you. I had one of these times with my sista and two dear friends of ours a couple of weeks ago (right in the midst of our Missions Conference + Turning Hearts Celebration + cousin's wedding + company + camp preparation) and it was priceless. I'm so thankful for these girls-they know me way too well. =) I'm blessed to have friends with whom I can bare my soul and know that they will listen and care...and that they will love me just the same, even if I am sometimes ridiculous and can't for the life of me explain myself.

We all need friends like this. And we all need to take time to stop sometimes and just BE. Stop running and trying to get everything done. Don't worry, the work will still be waiting for you when you get back; it never runs away. =) But don't wait until your life is totally in control and everything is running smoothly to make time to connect and rest. Take time now. It doesn't have to be a lot. It can just be a little thing, like meeting a kindred for coffee or getting together with a few to share what's been going on in your lives. But take the time. Learn to rejuvenate. I came back from our little twelve hour getaway REJUVENATED in mind + spirit. (still physically exhausted, since there was lots of talking and not much sleeping!) But the physical doesn't matter so much anymore, when your mind + spirit are encouraged and refreshed and refueled!
Find friends like this. Be a friend like this. You will be blessed. And rejuvenated!

Boho Blogtober is Returning!

This, my friends, is the exciting announcement I was referring to several weeks ago!! (Some of you thought I was going to announce that there was a  "special someone" in my life, and you came to me and asked about it because you couldn't bear the suspense. Sorry to disappoint y'all---believe me, that was the furthest thing from my mind when I posted. =))

For those of you who were following my blog last year around this time, you will remember the Boho Blogtober series that my Hannah friend and I did. It was a huge success-I was motivated like never before and it was a great experience. Somewhat of a love/hate deal some days, but overall it was a good thing. =)

Anyway, we're trying it again this year. For those of you who are new to my blog since last year, basically in a nutshell Boho Blogtober is a time when we focus on growing our blogs + posting a lot! Beginning October 1st and running thru October 31st, we will post a total of 46 times between the two of us. Twenty-three posts for each of us in one month, to be exact! That comes out to a post every weekday.

My posts will include :

::Guest Bloggers (!!!)
::FAQ post
::Fashion posts
::A styled shoot or two (ideas have been running wild-can't wait for these!)
::Clothing makeover/tutorial posts
::A Laundry Series (I know it sounds strange but...I've been getting so many questions about everything from laundry soap to stain removers to my laundry schedule. So I'm going to post it all)
::a VLOG (video blog) from Hannah and I! (this was all her idea...but I'm super excited and on board with it, 100%! It is sure to be wild and hilarious---in real life we aren't nearly as serious as we are on our blogs, hehe)
::The long-ago promised modesty & guy/girl/relationship posts.

But we're going to need your help in a couple ways....
  • Submit your input and questions. What would you love to see in Boho Blogtober?! Speak up! :) And for a FAQ post and the video blog, we are going to need questions. They can be photography/blogging/music related, or on other topics! (family, daily life, relationships, etc etc! The possibilities are endless!) Please, please comment with them on this post, as NOW is your chance to put a plug in for your interests! I will do my best to answer as many as possible...I know I didn't get to all of them last year, but I will do my best!
  • If you have an Etsy shop and would be interested in donating an item for a giveaway, I would love to have you featured and link to your site! Last fall in October my blog stats skyrocketed (I was blown away---had no idea a series like this would pique so much interest!), so if you would like to gain exposure for your business, Boho Blogtober would be a great outlet for you! If you are interested in doing this, please e-mail me asap [] I'm not promising to include everything sent me (depending on the amount of interest) but at least email and let me know about your product and I will give it serious consideration.
  • SPREAD THE WORD!! Tell your friends, share this post (easy ways to do that found at the bottom of this post with the google +, pinterest, & facebook tabs), mark your calendars and "Keep Calm and Wait for October 1st." :) If you have pinterest, please pin the announcement graphic above! Both Hannah & I's goal through this series is to push ourselves in blogging more, yes, but more importantly, to be able to encourage and edify all of you fabulous blog readers!  Also be sure to go follow Hannah's blog (if you aren't already) so you can have all HER posts in your feed when October hits!!

So looking forward to this, friends! Just a few short days of rest for me until this blogging craze hits. =)
Hope y'all have an awesome evening!

1950's Styled Portraits

At our church's recent missions conference & international dinner (read more about the whole weekend on our family blog, here!) several from my family ended up on team America. My first thought was that "this will be boring", because, after all, we live in America. What could we do for our international booth that would actually be interesting?
Enter my Cassie friend, who is pretty much the world's most creative decorator/designer/planner extraordinare. She told us all that we were going to go back in time and recreate a 1950's America home, complete with food, furniture,, of course! We were going to be LEGIT.
And let me tell you, we went all out, and it was such fun. Pretty sure I could dress like this
Well, except for maybe the heavy lipstick. That would get annoying. =)
Since we were all dressed up anyway, and since its not everyday that we dress this way, we took a few minutes to grab some fun shots.
Above is Rebecca, in a fun, polka dotted dress I found at goodwill and remade for her, and an adorable little hairstyle that we took from the Shirley Temple version of "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm".
(shh...don't tell that it was previously a women's size sundress  and waay too big for her. There's nothing that a sewing machine can't fix! With just a little work it was transformed into just her size.)
My shoes.
Once again, courtesy of goodwill.
Never mind that they were two sizes too small. They were 1950's after all!! So I wore them.
 I may or may not have had the sorest feet for a long time afterwards...but they were still worth it.
My sister was aMAYzing!! She did her hair herself, which was super impressive.
Her dress was borrowed from me (it was a dress I've had for a few years-got it at goodwill and added the black band at the bottom to give it a tad bit more length) her heels were her own, and I found the jewelry for her in a 1950's tote at a costume consignment store.
The magazine she was looking at was an antique womens fashion magazine. No clue how it happened to be open to a picture of a baby..whatever.
Vering from the fashion for a minute to..THIS STOVE.
#Yay for discarded stoves that don't work and red spray paint and friends who are just genius like that. Oh, and REAL APPLE PIE.
Ah-she's just so FIFTIES!! =)
Liz and I grabbed a quick photo together. Poor child-she HATED that huge hairbow and tried her best to convince me that no normal child in ANY time period would have ever been caught DEAD in something like that.
Unfortunately for her, she's stuck with an older sister (me!) who is a fifties junkie. I KNOW this time period. The big bow was a must. End of subject. =)
Big bow and all-agree with me that she looks VERY darling?! Oh. And her dress was from goodwill too!
And then just a few of yours truly. I don't like posting pictures of myself of the guys had left their glasses on the table and I just couldn't resist trying them on and grabbing a few pictures.
And no, I haven't had a heart change-I still abhor coke. But a coke bottle really seemed fitting for the shot, so I compromised. =)
And my dress? On cue, all together now....Goodwill! =) Once again it was too short but I took the fabric belt and took out the seams and attached it to the bottom of the dress. (see the above picture-you will be able to tell where the lines contrast near the hem) I love how it turned out.
Anybody else love the fifties, too? Have you ever dressed up fifties-style?

My Monthly Update...Of Sorts

Oh dear friends! The water that has gone over the dam since my last post...could flood the mississippi, hehe. =)
The missions conference + wedding + labor day celebration + other craziness of the past month are  come and gone. The company has left. The mess and stress is trying to leave. (well...)
And I am excited about all the lovely gems I have to post, and hope maybe a few of you are still lurking around here somewhere to enjoy them with me? =)
 Come back Monday for what is going to be one of my favorite posts of all time---a photoshoot in which my sis & I step back into the 1950's and don dresses, step into peep toe heels, poof our hair, and apply much red lipstick. =)
And then after that I get to post about my dear cousin's wedding from last Saturday, which was very possibly one of the loveliest weddings ever!
And after that...there's an exciting announcement coming!!
Stay tuned!
In the meantime enjoy a few pictures of one of my favorite baby loves, Titus Valor. Isn't he a charmer? Yes. =)

Happy Weekend, friends!
