Today is another good good day thus far! Our little lady is just blowing everyone away with her amazing progress! Especially considering how badly things were going just a week ago, even the doctors and nurses are so amazed with how well Madeline is doing! Yesterday afternoon they dropped the last of her oxygen and she has done amazing without it. Not even 32 weeks and breathing all on her own. What a champion! She is also exclusively on my breast milk now. Her feeding tube has been moved to her nose instead of her mouth. And that feeding tube is the only “surviving” type of tube she has left now. (She has a few monitor-type things but nothing else that is “sustaining”) She loves her paci and has a good little suck that she enjoys practicing with it. 😊We have heard her cry for the first time these past few days and even though it sounds strange to say this, it has been such a beautiful sound and is a great sign of her doing good. Considering her age and the big scares she was giving us only a week ago, this is all incredible progress and we are just so thankful! ❤️
I took the top picture this morning-she was wide awake when I came in a little before 9am and it was so fun to talk and sing and interact with her like that! I haven’t seen her with open eyes yet hardly at all and it was super sweet. Looks like she’s going to have big beautiful eyes like her brothers.😍
I’m currently working on an update on the rest of our little family and how we are doing, and the birth story as well, so stay tuned for those!
Have a blessed Wednesday, friends! And again Thankyou all so much for the continued prayer and support-we are so grateful!

ReplyDeleteSuch great news! Praising God with you :)
ReplyDeleteLove seeing Madeline's eyes open! Too sweet. So happy for the good news and changes in your little fighter! Can't wait to see what God does in her life.
ReplyDeleteYAY!!!
ReplyDeleteYou probably know this already - but the fact her feeding tube was swapped from an OG (oral-gastric) to an NG (nasal-gastric) is also a great sign. The NICU does that when the baby is showing signs of being mature enough to start oral feeds soon :-)
Honestly, once you've been a NICU parent, you have a different take on hearing a baby cry forever. When my son wails - even now that he's four - part of me feels relieved because I know that very sick babies and kids don't cry because they can't.
Lots of love from the mom who was a preemie with pneumothorax and whose 26 week preemie boy is right now roaring in the living room while he pretends to be a dinosaur.
Thankyou for sharing your story!!
DeleteYes, we are so thankful for the progress shown by switching of her feeding tubes! And the baby cries are truly so good and healing! ❤️
She is SO precious, Chels! Praying for all of you. ❤
ReplyDeleteAww. Praise the Lord for answered prayers!! Still in awe of how well she is doing!! Our God is and AWESOME God!! ♥️♥️
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to see her eyes open in that picture! Still praying for you all.❤️
ReplyDeleteYour little girl is so beautiful and so precious, and I'm thankful to God to hear the encouraging updates. I also follow the Maxwell's blog so I've been praying for all of you since I read about Madeline's early arrival. My heart truly goes out to you & John. We also had a little one in the NICU many years ago (more than 32 years ago) so I understand some of what you're going through. Even though we don't know each other personally, I'm sending you love and hope in Christ, and please know that your sweet little family will all remain in my prayers. - Kris W.
